Scaffolding at Flora Hotel, Kensal Green, West London
Historic Building Under Transformation
Scaffolding has been erected around the historic Flora Hotel located on Harrow Road in Kensal Green, West London. Planning permission has been granted to convert the upper floors into residential units, add a roof extension, and construct a new five-storey building where the beer garden once stood. The ground floor is set to continue operating as a pub.
Architectural Significance
The Flora Hotel, constructed in the 19th century, is distinguished by its polychrome brick design and the “angular window heads” noted by Pevsner. The building features contrasting brickwork above the windows and incorporates floral motifs in its design. Historically known as The Flora Arms in 1881 and 1896, the establishment has a long history of serving the Kensal Green community.

A Rich History
In the 19th century, as The Flora Hotel, it hosted numerous inquests into local deaths. Thomas Robinson Dipple served as the publican from at least 1904 to 1921. Often referred to as an “Irish” pub due to the significant Irish community in the area, it became a popular spot for fans of the local football team, Queen’s Park Rangers, in the 20th century.
